What's Next?

What's Next?

So, you've attended a Mahjong 101 class. What's next?

You've learned the basics, now it's time to put them into practice.

1. I recommend using the app Mahjong 4 Friends, because it shows you suggested hands.

One thing I really appreciate about this app is that it shows you your statistics, like whether you've won Mahjong from all the lines on the card, how often you've won certain hands, etc.

2. Once you're more comfortable, you can play NMJL Online, or any other app as long as it does NOT show you suggested hands. If you have more self-control than I do, you can still play "Mahjong 4 Friends" but just don't click the "Suggested Hands" button. At a certain point, you need to transition away from being able to see "suggested hands".

3. Sign up for Mini Mahj Daily! It's like Wordle, but with Mahjong! I had a lot of trial and error playing this, as sometimes I tried to move a tile and ended up discarding tiles I wanted to keep. Also, be aware that their "card" doesn't 100% match the NMJL card.

3. Start playing in person with other beginners! "Guided Play" is a great opportunity for that, when instructors can answer questions and make suggestions.

Before you know it, you'll be ready to play in tournaments! Or just for fun, if that's more your style.
